Accomplished custodian Jake Kean features in ‘The Stag’

5 January 2017

Mansfield Town host Crewe Alexandra at One Call Stadium in 2017’s first home fixture this Saturday (07 January, 3.00pm kick-off), and supporters can buy the latest copy of The Stag for only £3.

This edition of our official matchday programme contains exclusive news on the Stags’ four January signings, with midfielders Joel Byrom and Ben Whiteman, striker Yoann Arquin and goalkeeper Jake Kean all having joined the club over the New Year period.

The quartet made an instant impression during their debuts against Blackpool, as Mansfield returned from Bloomfield Road with a richly-deserved 1-0 victory, courtesy of striker Matt Green’s 11th goal of the season.

Moreover, 25-year-old Sheffield Wednesday loanee Kean headlines The Stag’s featured interview. The ex-Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City goalkeeper speaks about settling in his new environment, his excitement to work under manager Steve Evans, and his ambition to get more game time under his belt while helping the club in their bid for promotion.

The Stags played two games in three days during the turn of the year and picked up four points, courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Doncaster Rovers followed by the excellent 1-0 victory over Blackpool. The Stag relives the two action-packed rounds with snapshots from the matches.

In academy news, under 21s midfielder Joel Carta answers the Q&A, revealing his sporting hero and career objectives for the season. Meanwhile, academy manager John Dempster has praised his players’ professionalism over the Christmas break, as they now return to action in the EFL Youth Alliance against Doncaster’s under 18s this Saturday.

The Stag also takes an in-depth look at our visitors Crewe Alexandra, including the football club’s history, as well as exploring the town’s origins as part of the expansion of the nation’s illustrious railway industry.

Journalist Tom Errington continues his ‘one game wonders’ series, where he profiles former striker Adam Somes. Somes played in Stags’ colours just once, in a 5-0 defeat against Fleetwood Town in an FA Cup fourth round qualifying replay.

Moreover, there is a FREE poster with every programme and this week's features pictures of new signing Jake Kean.

Supporters are reminded to keep an eye out for manager Steve Evans’ signature on any random page in The Stag. If you find his autograph, you’ve won two tickets for our home match against Leyton Orient later this month!

The matchday programme can be bought for just £3 from our club shop, the merchandise stall or any programme vendor situated around the ground.
