Youth preview: Scunthorpe United vs Stags

5 April 2017

Mansfield Town's under 18s travel to Lincolnshire to face Scunthorpe United on Saturday (08 April, 11am kick-off).

Academy manager John Dempster's side extended their lead at the top of the EFL Youth Alliance to five points last week when second-placed Oldham Athletic dropped points away to Hartlepool United after Stags had triumphed over Chesterfield the day before.

Stags have now got to hold their nerve to maintain their title challenge with just four games of the season remaining as they aim to become back-to-back EFL Youth Alliance champions.

Striker Devante Reittie was the match-winner last week when his second half strike secured a 1-0 win over local rivals Chesterfield, a result which maintained their unbeaten run in 2017.

Stags last tasted defeat in the EFL Youth Alliance on 03 December, when they slipped to a 1-0 loss against York City.

Saturday's hosts Scunthorpe currently sit in mid-table in the EFL Youth Alliance with 27 points from their 20 games.

They've recorded just one win in their last six games - a 3-1 win over bottom club Lincoln City - losing four and drawing one of their other five.

Supporters are welcome to attend the match on Saturday, at the following address:
