Youth preview: Burton Albion vs Stags

1 September 2016

John Dempster's under 18s will face Burton Albion for the second week running on Saturday (11am kick-off) after defeating the Brewers 2-1 last week.

Goals from striker Ashanti Pryce and midfielder Tom Marriott ensured the Stags got their EFL Youth Alliance Cup campaign off to the best possible start, despite a late consolation goal by Tristan Matthews.

That late goal by Matthews was the first conceded by John Dempster's men in 544 minutes of football, dating back to last April when Lincoln City scored a late goal in a 3-1 Stags' win.

Stags currently sit joint top of the EFL Youth Alliance North East division after two wins and a draw from their opening three league fixtures.

Back-to-back 1-0 wins against Chesterfield and Scunthorpe catapulted the youngsters to second in the league, with just a superior goal difference separating them from pace-setters Oldham Athletic, to whom they drew 0-0 with on the opening day of the season.

The Brewers occupy seventh position in the league with four points from their opening two games. They followed up their 5-2 opening day victory over Bradford City with a 2-2 draw away at Notts County.

The match will take place at Welbeck MOD College, with only club personnel and players' family permitted to attend.
