Under 21s face Grimsby tomorrow

27 September 2016

Mansfield Town's under 21s return to Central League action with a home clash against Grimsby Town tomorrow afternoon (2.00pm kick-off).

Stags will welcome the Mariners to Rainworth Miners Welfare tomorrow as they look to build on their opening day success over Rotherham United at the start of September.

Winger Charlie Shaw scored what turned out to be the winner in just the sixth minute against the Millers to start their campaign in the best possible way.

Tomorrow's visitors fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Chesterfield, who the Stags were defeated 4-2 by in their Central League Cup tie a fortnight ago, in their first game of the season and subsequently sit bottom of the Central League North East division.

Stags and Grimsby are the only sides to have played just one game in the division and Mike Whitlow's side can join Hartlepool United at the top of the table by keeping their 100 percent record intact.

Last week, an experimental Stags' side were defeated 6-1 by a strong Nike Academy outfit at St George's Park and a lot of the players on show were getting their first taste of under 21s action.

Players such as winger Tyler Johal, left-back Ollie Humphrey and forwards Sam Grouse and Nathan Weekes got some much-needed minutes under their belts as Whitlow chose to rotate a number of the players at his disposal.

The match, which will kick-off at 2pm, is open to the public and the address is as follows:

Rainworth Miners Welfare
Kirklington Road
Mansfield
NG21 0JY
