Youth preview: Stags vs Walsall

19 October 2016

After back-to-back EFL Youth Alliance defeats, Mansfield Town's under 18s will be aiming for a confidence-boosting victory in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday.

John Dempster's side will take on Walsall at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium on Saturday 22 October (11am kick-off) and the match will be free for supporters to attend.

Last week's disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Rotherham United followed their previous last minute defeat to Hartlepool United.

However, Stags' under 18s still sit top of the EFL Youth Alliance and also their EFL Youth Alliance Cup group after a win and a draw from their opening two games.

They opened their cup campaign with a 2-1 victory over Burton Albion before securing a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury Town a fortnight later.

John Dempster's youngsters have already qualified for the next round of the competition and face a Walsall side who sit bottom of the group table.

They drew their opening group match 2-2 with Shrewsbury Town, before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at home to Burton Albion.

The match, which is free to watch for supporters, will take place at the following venue:

The Worksop Van Hire Stadium,
Mansfield Road,
Clipstone,
Notts,
NG21 9DP
