Youth preview: Stags vs York City

30 November 2016

Mansfield Town’s under 18s will return to action this Saturday with a home match against York City (11am kick-off).

Our youth team’s last outing was the 5-2 FA Youth Cup victory over Dunkirk a fortnight ago and they have since had chance to recharge their batteries as they continue their defence of their EFL Youth Alliance league title.

Saturday’s match against the Minstermen will kick-off at 11am at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium, the home of Clipstone FC.

Despite being without a game for two weeks, Stags still top the EFL Youth Alliance North East division on 25 points, two ahead of local rivals Notts County.

Stags’ last league match was against the Magpies and John Dempster’s side ran out comfortable 2-0 winners thanks to a well-taken brace from forward Nyle Blake.

York currently reside in 14th place in the league table after a hit and miss opening ten matches.

They’ve won just once in their last five games in all competitions when they triumphed 2-0 away at Chesterfield.

The Minstermen travelled to Lincolnshire last weekend to face Lincoln City and they secured a 1-1 draw with the second-to-bottom Imps.

Academy manager John Dempster has had to cope with a number of injuries to key players during the first part of the season, but his squad have reacted admirably with assured performances.

Goalkeeper Sam Wilson will miss Saturday’s clash after he dislocated his elbow during the victory over Notts County, whilst winger Tom Marriott and striker Ashanti Pryce are also likely to miss out with their respective injuries.

Despite not having a match for a fortnight, many of the under 18s have enjoyed game-time with the under 21s.

No fewer than six youth team players made an appearance for Mike Whitlow’s side against Nottingham Forest last week, whilst seven appeared in the 3-0 defeat against York’s under 21s prior to that.

Supporters are welcome to watch the youngsters in action at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium, but please note, Clipstone will be charging £3 admission for adults.

The address for the venue is as follows:

Worksop Van Hire Stadium
Clipstone Road East,
Clipstone Village,
Mansfield,
NG21 9AB
