Young guns to begin FA Youth Cup journey tonight

1 November 2016

Mansfield Town's under 18s will travel to Bedworth United this evening in the first round of the FA Youth Cup (Wednesday 02 November, 7.30pm).

John Dempster's side reached round three last season where they were knocked out of the competition by Under 18 Premier League side Sunderland at One Call Stadium.

Prior to the 5-1 defeat, the youngsters defeated non-league sides Dereham Town and Cambridge City.

Our under 18s are entering the FA Youth Cup at the first round stage and have been handed an away tie for the first time since the 2013/14 season.

Bedworth have progressed through three qualifying rounds to reach the first round proper.

They defeated Ely City 2-1 in the first qualifying round before being taken to penalties in the second qualifying stage by Rushall Olympic where they triumphed 4-3 on spot kicks after a 3-3 draw after extra time.

The Coventry-based side then beat Pegasus Juniors 3-2 after extra time in the third qualifying round to set up the tie with the Stags.

Speaking prior to the match, head coach John Dempster said his side will need to be on top of their game to ensure they progress to the second round.

"We'll do a little bit of work on the opposition on Wednesday, we'll see them play, we've got a bit of video footage on them and if we're not 'at it' and at 100 percent then we'll find ourselves out of the FA Youth Cup, which is a place we don't want to be."

Our under 18s ended a three-match losing streak on Saturday with a 3-1 victory away at Lincoln City and they still sit top of the EFL Youth Alliance with 22 points from 10 games.

The match is open to the public and prices are as follows:

Adults: £3
OAPs and concessions: £2
Under 16s: Free

The venue is as follows:

The Oval,
Coventry Road,
Bedworth,
CV12 8NN
