Ladies preview: Stagettes vs Calverton

3 November 2016

Mansfield Town Ladies face off against Calverton Miners Welfare Ladies in the second round of the Nottinghamshire FA Women’s County Cup this Sunday (06 November, 1pm kick-off).

Tony Palmer’s side will hope to reach the quarter finals with a victory on Sunday and at the same time rediscover some of their form from earlier in the season.

The Stagettes picked up maximum points in six straight games between 18 September and 16 October, which saw them soar clear at the top of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Premier League table.

However, two defeats in the last two games, to Sheffield United Community and Nettleham Ladies respectively, has stunted their form and has therefore given an added incentive to Sunday’s game as well as the prospect of a quarter final berth.

As a result, they will see this game as welcome relief in a cup tie in order to get their season back on track.

Their opponents on Sunday, Calverton, sit atop the East Midlands Women’s Division One North, the league below Mansfield.

They only suffered their first league defeat of the season last week, a 3-1 loss to second-placed Ollerton Town Ladies.

Mansfield will come in to the game as firm favourites but will have to be wary of complacency as they look to secure safe passage to the quarter finals and attempt to recapture their early season form.

The match will take place at Rainworth Miners Welfare with a 1pm kick-off.

The address is as follows:

Rainworth Miners Welfare,
Kirklington Road,
Rainworth,
NG21 0JY
