Youth team aiming for top spot

31 March 2016

Mansfield Town’s under 18s will be looking to claim top spot in the Football League Youth Alliance when they host bitter rivals Notts County at Rainworth Miners Welfare on Saturday (11am kick-off).

Two weeks before the first team meet the Magpies, John Dempster’s men have an extra emphasis on this weekend’s fixture as they could reach the summit of the Football League Youth Alliance with a win.

The Stags are presented with the opportunity to get a third straight victory, after they beat Bradford City 1-0 at Kirklington Road last week thanks to a solitary goal from Cain Smith seven minutes into the second half.

With only five games remaining, the young Mansfield outfit have the challenge of maintaining their superb form if they are to claim the league title.

In the last meeting between the two sides, Dempster’s legion suffered a rare defeat as they lost 4-0 to the Magpies, which is the only time the Stags have conceded four goals this season in the league.

Revenge will be on the mind of the Mansfield players, and with the encounter being their last home game until 23 April, making the most of being on familiar ground will be a factor they’ll be aiming to take advantage of.

The address for the match is as follows:

Rainworth Miners Welfare
Kirklington Road
Rainworth
Nottinghamshire
NG21 0JY
