Youth preview: Stags vs Bradford City

24 March 2016

Mansfield Town’s under 18s will be looking for back-to-back Football League Youth Alliance wins when they face Bradford City at home on Saturday (12pm kick-off).

The Stags ruthlessly brushed Basford United aside on Monday in the Football Conference Youth Alliance with a 4-0 victory, building good momentum going into the weekend’s fixture.

Defenders Charlie Shaw and Louis Danquah, midfielder Max McLeod and striker Tyler Blake were the goalscorers on the night for a strong team fielded by John Dempster.

In their last league match, Mansfield edged past Doncaster Rovers thanks to a late second-half strike from 15-year-old Nyle Blake, who has just signed a scholarship to continue at our academy.

The previous meeting between the Stags and the Bantams saw Alistair Smith bag a brace and Surafel Behailu grab the other goal for Dempster’s men, giving them a 3-1 win. At the time, Bradford were the league leaders which underlines the impressive nature of the performance.

Saturday’s visitors have since dropped quite dramatically in the division and they currently occupy tenth position, seven points off Mansfield having played a game more.

The young Stags sit third, three points off top spot with two matches in hand over the two teams that are above them in the table, Lincoln City and Scunthorpe United.

Updates from the encounter can be found on Mansfield Town’s Twitter and Facebook pages, whilst the report will be available to read on Monday.
