Loanee James Baxendale has been named in the Sky Bet Football League Team of the Week after his performance in our 2-1 win over Stevenage on Saturday.
The South Yorkshire-born attacking midfielder introduced himself in fine style to Stags’ supporters at One Call Stadium by scoring what turned out to be the winning goal against the Boro, after his loan from Walsall was announced shortly before kick-off.
After providing a link between the Stags' midfield and striker Matt Green throughout the afternoon, Baxendale made his mark by taking Green’s lay-off into his path before showing great finesse by curling the ball into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Chris Day from 20 yards out.
First team coach Micky Moore described the 23-year-old as a “good loan signing” after his Man-of-the-Match display and Baxendale will be looking to ensure he becomes a fans’ favourite in his spell at the club by continuing his good start to life at One Call Stadium.
