Youngsters travel to York this Saturday

4 February 2016

A second consecutive Football League Youth Alliance win will be the ambition for Stags’ under 18s away at York City this weekend (11am kick-off).

Coach John Dempster’s side picked up a vital victory last Saturday against Scunthorpe United at Kirklington Road, and another taste of success would be ideal this weekend against bottom-placed York.

Tyler Blake and Drew Gibson were the goalscorers against the Iron as Mansfield showed admirable grit to nullify the Lincolnshire outfit’s main threats.

Dempster believes Saturday morning’s contest will be a tough test as the Minstermen try to lift themselves off of the bottom of the table.

At the other end of the division, the Stags are joint top with three other teams - Notts County currently occupy top spot on goal difference.

Mansfield’s young guns are heading into a batch of fixtures against teams lower than them in the table, so taking advantage will be imperative if they want to fulfil their title hopes.

In their last game, York ground out an excellent 1-1 draw with high-flying Lincoln City – Steve Torpey’s men are three points adrift at the bottom of the league, and are yet to pick up maximum points in a match this season.

In the previous encounter between the two sides, Morgan Ratcliffe scored the solitary goal as Mansfield ran out 1-0 winners in mid-September.

The address for the game is as follows:
St John's University
Mill Crux
Haxby Road
York
