Tonight: An Evening with Matt Green

22 February 2016

Top scorer Matt Green is the next player to take to the stage in our popular ‘An Evening with’ series, tonight in the Sandy Pate Sports Bar (7.30pm)

The 29-year-old is in his second spell with the club after rejoining Adam Murray’s side from Birmingham City last summer and has hit 11 goals so far in the current campaign.

Green began his career with Welsh club Newport County before joining Championship side Cardiff City for £10,000 in 2007.

After loan spells at Darlington and Oxford United, Green signed for Torquay United where he scored the goal which defeated then Championship side Blackpool in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Bath-born striker then signed a season-long loan deal at former club Oxford and scored the opening goal in the 2010 Conference play-off final victory over York City as the club returned to the Football League.

A two-year permanent deal with the U’s ensued before he joined the Stags on loan in July 2011 until the end of the year. Green scored 14 goals in 25 appearances and the club secured his signature on an 18-month deal from 01 January 2012.

The striker scored 25 goals in the Stags' Conference-winning season, including an incredible run of nine goals in the final seven games of the season before earning a move to Championship side Birmingham City after a successful trial.

Green made a good start to his Birmingham career; scoring in pre-season against Shamrock Rovers before netting his first competitive goal for the Blues in the 3-2 defeat against Leicester City.

After making 12 appearances, the forward damaged his cruciate ligament, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Green suffered a number of complications during his recovery from the injury and was released upon the expiration of his contract in the summer of 2015.

Stags announced the return of Green in May of that year and he has spearheaded the club’s assault on Sky Bet League 2 in the 2015/16 season with a ratio of one goal in every three games.

There will be the opportunity to ask Green questions, as well as the chance to win Stags’ merchandise on the night.

The Sandy Pate Sports Bar is located to the rear of the Ian Greaves Stand, next to the main car park which is free for all.
