Stags' boss visits home of young fan at Christmas

24 December 2016

Manager Steve Evans was close to tears this afternoon as he left the house of a young supporter who has been caring for his poorly mother.

The Stags’ boss visited nine-year-old Brendan Whitehead and presented him with a Stags’ ball and scarf at his Mansfield home yesterday.

Throughout the year, Brendan has been helping care for his mum who has been unwell.

His dad Paul paid tribute to Steve Evans after the visit yesterday: “It was absolutely fantastic. He (Brendan) never stopped bouncing all day yesterday.

“I was so impressed by this gesture from Steve Evans. I can’t give him enough credit. To a child of Brendan’s age it is so impressive. It shows that he is so approachable and for him to take time out and come to our house was incredible.”

Steve Evans added: “When anyone sees the courage displayed by the likes of young Brendan it makes you feel so proud of some of the young people who we have in our great country.

“If my visit to him makes him feel in the slightest bit more valued then I am proud as the manager of Mansfield Town Football Club to have made that visit.”
