Shearer eyes promotion alongside new boss in 'The Stag'

22 December 2016

Supporters visiting One Call Stadium on Boxing Day for our Sky Bet League Two fixture against Morecambe (26 December, 3.00pm kick-off) can buy the latest issue of The Stag for just £3.

In this edition of Stags’ official matchday programme, Glaswegian shot-stopper Scott Shearer features in the main interview segment, where he reveals his delight at again working alongside new Stags’ boss Steve Evans.

Shearer, 35, is now into his third stint under the manager’s tutelage, having previously won double-promotions alongside the Scottish manager at Crawley Town and Rotherham United, respectively.

In keeping with the Christmas spirit, The Stag recounts the first team’s visit to King’s Mill Hospital, where they handed out gifts to poorly children and spread festive cheer.

Moreover, midfielder Jamie McGuire reveals what he is buying for the Stags’ squad this Christmas in ‘Jamma’s Santa Sack’.

Shifting focus to the Stags’ under 18s’ thrilling FA Youth Cup run, academy manager John Dempster has hailed his charges’ team-effort despite a 3-1 exit in the third round against a strong Fulham side. He has also urged the defending EFL Youth Alliance champions to return stronger after the Christmas break.

Do you know the middle name of ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp? Delve in deep to test your football knowledge with a set of brain-racking questions in our footballing quiz.

Furthermore, this edition of the matchday programme relives Mansfield Town’s 1987 Freight Rover Trophy success in the ‘Scrapbook’ section.

And lastly, journalist Tom Errington continues his ‘one game wonders’ series, where he profiles Nigerian Solomon Taiwo, who played only once in the Stags’ midfield during a 4-1 defeat against Cambridge United in 2012/13.

Don’t forget – if you are lucky enough to purchase a signed copy of The Stag, you’ll be eligible to receive TWO FREE tickets to our match against Doncaster Rovers on New Year’s Eve by taking your signed copy to our ticket office on Quarry Lane at One Call Stadium.

The Stag is available to buy for just £3 from the club shop, ticket office or from any programme vendor around the stadium.
