New boss sends well wishes to young fan after op

2 December 2016

New boss Steve Evans has sent a video message to 11-year-old Stags' fan Ben Mellor, who underwent an Achilles operation on both legs this morning.

Ben, who now has his legs in plaster, is said to be 'doing well' after the operation.

And making time in his schedule, the new Stags' manager sent his well wishes to the youngster and pledged to visit him at home/hospital, along with Ben's favourite Stags' players soon.

Speaking directly to camera, Steve said: "...wishing you a speedy recovery after what we believe was a real tough operation this morning.

"Your dad Stuart and mum Jen have told me and the people around the One Call Stadium that you've come through that and have shown real strength of character which everyone knows you've got.

"We want you back here a week on Saturday when we play Colchester United in another big game in League Two as we strive towards those play-offs. So get well soon.

"I am going to take it upon myself, Ben, to organise your favourite player or favourite two players, with your mum and dad's permission, to come and see you at home or hospital; whatever is on your agenda we will meet it."

The boss then extended his well wishes to the amber and blue army worldwide ahead of Christmas.

"I'd like to wish every Mansfield Town supporter, old and young, a speedy recovery if you're a bit under the weather.

"Without our supporters, and you the people of Mansfield, there is no football club.

"John Radford and his wife Carolyn are the owners and the custodians of this football club. I know what the well-being of our supporters means to them and all of us

"As we approach this festive season, I hope [those of you who are unwell] get well soon. As for young Ben... we're coming to see you."
