Benning embracing changing of the guard in The Stag

10 December 2016

Supporters attending One Call Stadium for the Sky Bet League Two fixture against Colchester United this Saturday can buy the latest issue of The Stag for just £3.

Flying left-back Malvind Benning headlines this edition of our matchday programme, where he reveals how the whole squad has warmed to the philosophy of new chief Steve Evans, and how the former Rotherham United manager thrives to bring the best out of his players.

Benning, 23, is into his second season in Stags' colours, and has further reflected on his own performance this term so far, having already made 24 appearances.

Moreover, the match action section highlights Mansfield’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Carlisle United last time out in the Checkatrade Trophy, where substitute Danny Rose’s 25-yard wonder goal proved the difference at Brunton Park.

Additionally, Stags’ academy manager coach John Dempster has urged his under 18s to remain focused ahead of the crunch FA Youth Cup third round clash against Fulham next Friday, while under 21s wide-man Tyler Johal speaks about his football life in the ‘Q&A’, including reasons why he likes to model his game on Welsh and Real Madrid hotshot Gareth Bale.

As the focus shifts on to our visitors from Essex, The Stag underlines Colchester’s iconic heritage as a former capital of Roman Britain. Also, club historian Paul Taylor picks eight matchday programme covers, reminiscing on the Stags v Colchester matches over the past decades.

Furthermore, journalist Tom Errington continues his ‘One Game Wonders’ series, this time profiling striker James Alabi, who featured once for Mansfield Town in 2013 in a 3-0 defeat against Scunthorpe United.

The Stag is available to buy for only £3 from the ticket office, merchandise stall and any of our programme vendors around the stadium.
