Young Stags begin title defence this Saturday

4 August 2016

Our under 18s begin their 2016/17 EFL Youth Alliance defence this Saturday with a home match against Oldham Athletic.

After winning the league title last campaign, coach John Dempster’s men will be aiming to launch a stern defence of the trophy throughout the 2016/17 season.

And the opening match of the new season will take place at Clipstone’s Worksop Van Hire Stadium on Saturday 06 August (12pm kick-off) against Oldham.

With striker Tyler Blake and left-back Louis Danquah signing professional deals, goalkeeper Adam Bishop leaving the club and forward Zayn Hakeem currently being part of the first team squad, Dempster’s side has altered slightly ahead of the new season.

The under 18s have been bolstered by the addition of striker Ashanti Pryce, who was previously with Birmingham City, goalkeeper Jack Dickens, who has moved up from the under 16s and left-back Henri Wilder.

Meanwhile, John Dempster also has 13 players still eligible to play from last season’s championship-winning side.

Supporters wishing to attend this Saturday’s youth team fixture can do so, and entry will be free of charge.

The address is as follows:

The Worksop Van Hire Stadium
