Under 18s aiming to secure league title on final day

27 April 2016

Mansfield Town’s under 18s will seal the Football League Youth Alliance title with a win away at Grimsby Town on Saturday (11am kick-off).

Following the 4-0 thrashing of Oldham Athletic at Clipstone last Saturday, the young Stags are in pole position heading into their final game of the season and know a victory will secure the league title.

John Dempster's men currently sit four points clear of nearest challengers Scunthorpe United at the top of the table, however the Iron do have a game in hand. Nevertheless, a win against the Mariners will clinch the title in their debut season in the Football League Youth Alliance, no matter what results Scunthorpe achieve in their final two games.

Striker Tyler Blake netted a superb hat-trick with defender Morgan Ratcliffe grabbing the other goal to brush the Latics aside during the Stags' last fixture.

In the previous meeting against Grimsby back in December, midfielder Cameron Healey powered home a first-half header to secure a 1-0 success.

It will be the third contest between the two sides this season as they also faced each other back in August in the Football League Youth Alliance Cup, which Mansfield won on penalties with Ellis Ogle scoring the Stags' goal in the 1-1 draw after extra-time.

The Mariners currently sit 12th in the Football League Youth Alliance table after recording just four wins from their 22 games this season.

The address for the game is as follows:
Cheapside Training Ground,
Waltham,
Grimsby,
DN37 OHT
