Murray closing in on midfielder

6 January 2015

Boss Adam Murray says he wants to sign 'a midfielder who can fill my boots' in the centre of the field, as he prepares to close in on more signings.

Speaking at this morning's news conference, the manager said he was confident that a midfield player would be added to his ranks shortly, as well as in other areas.

"I'm hoping there'll be another one coming in shortly," said the manager.

"I want someone who can fill my boots in the middle of the pitch at times; not necessarily always ability wise, but another leader and organiser, a strong character who will pull people around when the going gets tough.

"The person I have my eye on will do that. He's been there and done it. He's been in the situation where we have been in at the minute so he knows what it's all about.

"Within the next couple of days I am hoping for another two players, plus the player I have mentioned."

The manager revealed that he wants to have most of his transfer dealings wrapped up by Saturday's trip to Burton Albion.

"I want everything sewn up this week, realistically. That gives the lads time to settle. We will want the players coming in to hit the ground running but we're aware it will take them a couple of weeks to fully bed in.

"I want a tight-knit squad. I want everyone coming in every day fighting for a shirt. It'll be about balancing numbers on all levels."

Adam Murray still has decisions to make on striker Vadaine Oliver, whose loan expires later this month, as well as Reggie Lambe who will be out of contract before the end of January.~

The manager's interview will be available on Stags Player, later today.
