Spireites battle back to win FLYA encounter.
Our youth team experienced a rare defeat in the Football League Youth Alliance as they let slip an early lead to lose 5-1 to local rivals Chesterfield.
The Stags opened the scoring early on through Liam Groves, who found the target from 18 yards following some good work by George Holloway.
Kieran Harrison almost doubled Mansfield’s lead when he embarked on a teasing run and let fly with a powerful 25-yard shot, which went just a whisker wide of the woodwork.
The Spireites then drew level against the run of play on 26 minutes, as Jake Beasley cushioned a volley past Frazer Hampson following a corner.
Joe Fitzpatrick went close on a couple of occasions as Mansfield sought to re-take the lead, but the score was level at the break.Â
In the second half, Chesterfield upped the ante and with the wind in their favour, they were able to record a win.
After taking the lead on 68 minutes, the Spireites struck again with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining to go 3-1 ahead, then opened up a three-goal soon afterwards.
With about eight minutes to go, the visitors struck again to bag them three points which lifts them above us in the Football League Youth Alliance (North/East Division).
