Young guns face Black Cats on Friday

16 December 2015

Our under 18s take on Barclays Under 18 Premier League side Sunderland in the third round of the FA Youth Cup this Friday at One Call Stadium (7pm).

The Stags will be hoping to get their fourth win on the bounce and head into Friday’s FA Youth Cup tie on the back of an unbeaten run.

The youngsters reached the third round of the competition after a thrilling 4-3 victory over a spirited Dereham Town side with goals from Tom Marriott, Zayn Hakeem, Surafel Behailu and Louis Danquah.

It’s been a positive campaign for John Dempster’s league-leading youth side, and in their last fixture a solitary goal by Cameron Healey on 14 minutes handed our young guns a slender 1-0 victory over bottom-placed Grimsby Town at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium, Clipstone.

Dempster will be without Surafel Behailu for approximately two months with a broken collarbone, while Tyler Johal is unavailable due to being cup-tied. Long term absentees Tom Slone, Adam Bishop and Corbin Shires are also still unavailable for selection.

Last weekend's Football League Youth Alliance fixture with Rotherham United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, so the young Stags will be refreshed as they look to progress to the fourth round of the competition for the second successive season.

Supporters are welcome to watch the youngsters in action and admission prices are £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
