The Football League launches car sharing scheme

5 December 2015

The Football League have launched a new lift-share initiative to offer low-cost, sustainable travel to all matches this season.

Stags’ fans now have access to the new ‘Get to the Game’ travel platform, which can be found at football-league.liftshare.com. The service enables supporters to save money and help the club fill seats while lowering congestion in each club’s city on matchday.

Supporters can visit the site and view all public transport options to any match they wish by using ‘Get to the Game’ whilst also consulting Liftshare to find other fans travelling their way. The tool allows drivers to post details of their matchday travel and offer their spare car seats to other fans for a split of the total petrol spend to keep costs down.

Information on the Stags’ away trips to Cambridge United and Morecambe are now live on the site for Stags’ fans, so even without a car you can request and pre-book lifts to or from a game with those driving to fixtures.

Liftshare alerts keep members notified as soon as a suitable journey is posted in their area, giving Stags’ supporters a smart platform to coordinate travel with other dedicated fans each week.

Drew Barrand, Marketing Director of The Football League said: “We are delighted to be working with Liftshare to deliver the Get-to-the-Game service. We believe it will be an invaluable tool for football fans when it comes to planning journeys to both Home and Away fixtures.

“We also believe that the ability to use the Liftshare platform to facilitate car-pooling between fans will help open up access to fixtures that would have otherwise been untenable will help stimulate attendance to games all around the country.”

Liftshare is also available on mobile thanks to the site’s free iOS and Android apps, which were developed by global marketing and technology agency DigitasLBi. The apps were named best travel software in the Guardian’s top 20 apps for February 2015, and enable football enthusiasts to make the most of one-tap cashless payments, in-app instant messaging with other members, smart lift search and much more.

Ali Clabburn, Founder and CEO at Liftshare said of the partnership, "Not only is The Football League's desire to enter the sharing economy going to help fans save a lot when travelling to games each week, it gives supporters a rare chance to help their favourite team do its part for the environment too. We want to help fans save one million car miles and save £100,000 each week.

“With fewer cars on the road and a chance to get more supporters in the stands each week, the partnership is a big win for The Football League and its fans alike.”
