Commercial & Community partner Malcolm Hall is tomorrow taking part in a charity bike ride from Newcastle to London in aid of the Fountaindale School in Mansfield and the charity, Headway.
Malcolm is hoping to ride the 311 miles from Newcastle to London in under 24 hours and his fundraising campaign has already proved very successful.Malcom, whose local company Hall-Fast sponsor the back of our away shirts, has been training extensively for the ride during the past few months.
Fountaindale School in Mansfield is a specialist SEN school which welcomes children from the ages of 3-19.
Malcolm explains that the school is for children with physical and sensory needs, and the money raised will go towards equipment:
“The Fountaindale School is based in Mansfield and caters for children aged three to 19, with complex physical and sensory needs," he told www.mansfieldtown.net
“The school’s had a brand new building but have no equipment. So the fundraising we’ve done over the past three years has helped us to not only raise awareness but money for them to purchase equipment.”
The keen cyclist has been working hard to raise money and is pleased with his efforts so far.
He said: “So far for Fountaindale, we’ve raised £60,000 and we’re hoping to raise another £2,000. And for headway we’ve raised about £7,000.”
Headway is the UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury and they are based in Nottingham.
Whilst training for the event, he has had the help of ex-World and Olympic champion Brian Steele.
“We’ve done quite a lot of all-day rides, the longest of which is 211 miles which we did in 11 hours and 15 minutes, averaging 19 miles an hour which has given us a lot of confidence.”
Everyone at Mansfield Town Football Club wishes Malcolm success with this mammoth cycle challenge tomorrow.
