Tafazolli: We’ve got confidence to succeed

18 September 2014

Defender says we deserved to beat Morecambe, but expects hard match against Carlisle United.

Tuesday night saw our team return to winning ways as we beat high-flying Morecambe at One Call Stadium thanks to a late goal from substitute Alex Fisher.

The victory saw us jump up three places to 10th spot in Sky Bet League Two, heading into this Saturday’s home encounter with bottom of the table Carlisle United.

One man who was particularly satisfied with the team's work-rate and drive for success in our midweek success was centre-half, Ryan Tafazolli.

Reflecting on the game, he said: “It was really competitive. We did really well, because Morecambe are a tough side. They came to us with a game plan and they tried to remain compact and solid throughout the game, but luckily, we scored in the dying stages.”

Turning his attentions towards Saturday’s match, Tafazolli continued: “I think it was an issue last season, getting back-to-back wins, but obviously we had a home game on Tuesday, we've got another home game on Saturday, and we’ll really be looking to put another three points on the board.

“It will be a totally different game. Morecambe sat off us and allowed us to play, whereas Carlisle are really struggling to get points at the minute and they’re probably just going to come at us all guns blazing.

“So we need to start fast again like we’ve been doing recently.”

Tafazolli, who celebrates his 23rd birthday next weekend, has been one of three ever-present figures in our team this season, along with full-back Lee Beevers and fellow central defensive partner Ritchie Sutton.

Analysing his own form this term, he added: “I just need to keep up my individual standards and hopefully the team can keep up theirs as well after Tuesday.”
