Stagettes stung by last minute leveller

28 September 2014

Ladies team forced to settle for a point against Leicester City Women.

Our ladies team relinquished crucial points in the dying minutes for the second successive away match as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City Ladies in the FA Women’s Premier League (Midland Division One) this afternoon.

The Stagettes, who conceded late on in a remarkable 5-5 draw at Solihull Ladies in their last away match, took the lead in today’s contest courtesy of a cheeky first half chip from the ever-impressive Jemma Douglas.

But having led for 73 minutes, Mike Wain’s team lost concentration deep into injury-time as Chanelle Edkins’ low ball across the goalmouth was turned home to earn Leicester City Ladies a crucial point.

The result leaves our ladies occupying ninth position in the table – nine points behind early-season pace-setters Rotherham United, whom they face in their next fixture at One Call Stadium on Thursday 02 October (7.45pm).
