Development Squad collect another three points

11 September 2014

Groves, Chavundura and Holloway score in 3-0 victory over Buxton.

Our Development Squad continued their good early-season form in the H-K-L North Midlands League as they eased to a 3-0 win over Buxton.

After a relatively even opening half-hour in which both teams had opportunities, Liam Groves opened the scoring with a powerful low strike on 40 minutes.

The Stags could have doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when skipper Jack Koczalski capitalised on a goalkeeping error and smashed a low drive against the woodwork, with Denham Saxton just unable to convert the rebound.

Buxton again looked as though they could cause problems in the early stages of the second half, but Tino Chavundura, who played a full 90 minutes in yesterday’s win at FootballCV Reds, added a second goal on the hour mark.

The skilful winger tricked and teased his marker with some clever footwork out on the right channel, before he worked his way to the by-line and smashed a low drive into the back of the net from an acute angle.

George Holloway then made the game safe late on, scoring for the second time in as many days with a predatory 20-yard strike into the bottom-left corner.

Our Development Squad, who are yet to concede a goal in the H-K-L North Midlands League, will be hoping to continue their impressive start when they host Retford United on Thursday 18 September.
