John Radford becomes president of local athletics club

22 May 2014

Chairman John Radford has today accepted the position as honorary president of Mansfield Harriers Athletics Club, we are pleased to announce.

Mr Radford agreed to take up the role following an invitation by the club’s committee.

Mansfield Harriers Athletics club boasts over 250 members, aged from nine to 79 and is the largest of its kind within the area.

Its acting chairman Pat Carlan said: “We’re very pleased John has agreed to join us. His profile and standing within the community should help us develop further by increasing participation of athletics within Mansfield.”

John Radford added: “I consider it a privilege to become Mansfield Harriers' honorary president. Participation in local sport is something which is close to my heart. I’d like to see many more young people in the local area engage in sport and establish a lasting network between Mansfield Town and the athletics club.”

Mr Radford is the owner and chairman of Mansfield Town Football Club after taking over in September 2010. He masterminded the Stags’ return to the Football League in April 2013, following a five year exile in non-league.

In other news, Mansfield Town last week announced a string of home pre-season friendlies.  Notts County (Saturday 12 July, 3pm), Aston Villa (Thursday 17 July, 7.45pm) and Walsall (Saturday 02 August, 3pm) will head to One Call Stadium to face Paul Cox’s side.
