Ian Deakin, Chris Clements, Paul Black, Lindon Meikle, Lee Stevenson, Liam Marsden, Jack Thomas and Ben Hutchinson were the first team players who starred in a tightly fought win against a strong SSAFA side, boasting a number of capable semi-professional players.Stags' first team coach Richard Cooper was as an inspirational leader at the heart of the defence, accompanied by physio Chris Bowman who was a commanding presence in the backline.
Head Groundsman Michael Merriman also performed competently at left back and there were also cameo roles for Acorn Signs' Andrew Plant and our Head of Media & Communications Mark Stevenson, who acted as a decoy in the closing stages, to allow Clements to slot home the winner.
The team was picked and led by commercial manager Paul Nyland, who donned a light brown suit on the edge of the technical area to mark his first outing as manager.
Ben Hutchinson, Paul Black and Chris Clements claimed the goals.
All proceeds headed towards SSAFA (The Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association).Â
