Chairman presents Abbey Road Primary with winners' trophy

8 May 2014

Mansfield Town Chairman John Radford presented Abbey Road Primary with a colossal trophy at an assembly at the school this morning, after winning the inaugural John Radford Trophy.

The Stags' chief was accompanied by directors Paul & Tina Broughton, as well as Football in the Community director Mark Hemingray and his trusty assistant Gary Shaw.

Almost 300 school children were in attendance in a packed hall this morning to witness the lifting of the trophy by the Year Five students..

Eight local schools competed to claim the crown which saw Abbey Road beat King Edwards 1-0 in the final, played on the One Call Stadium pitch during the half-time interval in our first team's final home game of the season against Torquay United last month

Other schools who took part, were, in no particular order: St Philip Neri with St Bede's RC, Mansfield Primary Academy, Sutton Road, Sherwood Junior, Holly Primary and St Peters.

Chairman John Radford told www.mansfieldtown.net: "Well done to all the schools and players who took part. I hope everyone enjoyed playing and we look forward to hosting you all again next year."
