Trialists could feature at Leicester

18 March 2014

Strong side expected to travel to King Power Stadium tomorrow night.

Manager Paul Cox has indicated that some un-named trialists could feature in tomorrow’s Final Third Development League Cup Semi-Final clash with Leicester City.

Our boss is likely to field a strong team for the match at the King Power Stadium, but has revealed that none of the trialists are forwards.

He said: “We might have a look at one or two [trialists], but at the minute it’s about making sure we try and get the players that need game-time at least half a game to keep them ticking over.

“We’ve got enough forwards who we need to get games under their belts. We’re looking at one or two alternatives ‘up top’ this week, but they’ll be no [trialists] playing forward in this game.”

One player who knows both Leicester and Mansfield well is teenage midfielder Michael Cain, whose loan with us expires at midnight on Friday 21 March.

Cox admits he is unsure on whether Cain’s loan will be extended further.

He added: “I’ve got to speak to ‘Cainy’ and Leicester City, and we’ve got to ask if it’s worth realistically keeping him for another month.

“I’d like to do it. He’s a very good player, but I’ve got to speak to all parties before something materialises.”

Meanwhile, Ritchie Sutton is likely to feature against the high-flying Foxes tomorrow night as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Supporters wishing to attend this match should note that it is FREE ADMISSION. To gain entry, simply go to turnstiles 1-6, which will be open from 6.00pm.

If scores are level at full-time, the match will be decided by a penalty shoot-out. The winners will face either Wigan Athletic or Hartlepool United in the Final.
