16 July 2014

Members of the Stags Supporters Association have donated £8,000 towards the purchase of a new tractor to aid the upkeep of our pitch.

The tractor will be used to cut, roll and spike the One Stadium playing surface.

Head groundsman Michael Merriman said: "It's a massive tool for me and will prove to be a huge help. I'd like to thank every member of the SSA who have supported the groundstaff in my time at the club. This is another great gesture by our supporters' club."

In a joint statement, directors Paul & Tina Broughton said: "The club is hugely grateful to the members of the Stags Supporters Association, and its committee for donating the funds to acquire this piece of equipment to help maintain the pitch next season."

Stags Supporters' Association chairman  Dean Foulkes added: " "The bottom line is this money from SSA members has helped save the club £8,000 that they would have had to spend on this tractor which can hopefully be used to strengthen the playing squad in some way.

"Sincere thanks to all the SSA members whose financial contributions have allowed SSA to make this £8,000 purchase for the club.

Following discussions with John Radford (chairman), Tina & Paul Broughton and Michael Merriman, this tractor was identified as an essential piece of long term equipment for the club.

"Thanks again to the SSA members who continue to go the extra mile to back the Stags on and off the pitch and help SSA make a positive difference to the club financially. Hundreds of Stags fans have already signed up to SSA for the new season and if you want to join the SSA you can collect an application form from the club or email us at membership@thessa.org."
