Our youngsters have been eliminated from the FCYA League Cup at the Third Round stage following a 5-2 defeat at home to Ilkeston this afternoon.
The visitors took an early lead thanks to a spectacular strike from Ryan Osborne, before substitute Trovarn Thompson (pictured) headed home an equaliser on the half-hour mark.
Despite scores being level at the break, Ilkeston were the better team in the second half and re-took the lead when Rai Simons converted Jake Carlisle’s cross.
Akil Wright hammered a low drive into the bottom corner as Ilkeston opened up a two-goal cushion on 55 minutes, before Simons netted again two minutes later.
Joe Flint reduced arrears with a thunderous 30-yard free-kick on the hour mark, but Ilkeston continued to look dangerous and went 5-2 up through Harry Williams.
Simons spurned a chance to complete his hat-trick when Jordan Fell saved his weak spot-kick on 72 minutes, awarded after Liam Marsden was judged to have handled inside the box.
As a result of their victory, Ilkeston now face Luton Town Baldock in the Fourth Round.
Team: Fell, Marsden, Koczalski, Hempshall, Coupe, Lamb (Thompson), Simpson (M.Jones), J.Thomas (c), Green (Spencer), Fletcher, Flint.
