Young Stags are title winners

15 January 2014

Our youth team have now officially clinched the H-K-L North Midlands League title.

Bilborough Town’s resignation has been accepted by the league committee and as a result, their record for the 2013/14 campaign has been expunged.

It means that we are now in unassailable position at the top of the revised table – nine points clear of Mickleover Sports, who occupy second position but have just two matches remaining.

Academy Director John Ramshaw said: “Winning the league is testament to the development and progress that the players have made, and also to the quality of football that they have produced throughout the season.

“It’s a tremendous achievement by the players considering that on most occasions the opposition were two or three years older than us and were physically stronger.

“Everybody at the club is absolutely delighted for them.”

In other news, our youngsters are also set to compete in the H-K-L North Midlands League Shield later this season.

The Shield competition will include 15 clubs, which have already been split into three equal groups. The top two teams from each group, as well as the two third-placed teams with superior records, will progress to the Quarter Finals.

We have been drawn in Group Two alongside Handsworth, Sheffield, Dunkirk and Heanor Town. Fixtures will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, if our young guns beat Handsworth in the H-K-L North Midlands League Cup next week, we will host either Heanor Town or Hallam in the Quarter Finals.
