Preview: Stags vs Brewers

1 January 2014

Everything that you need to know ahead of our Sky Bet League Two clash with Burton Albion at One Call Stadium on New Year’s Day...

TEAM NEWS

Sam Clucas (ankle) and Ben Hutchinson (hamstring) are still both sidelined with injury, whilst Jamie McGuire (groin) and Matt Rhead (ankle) also suffered knocks in our last match.

RECENT FORM

Our team ended their 13-match winless streak with a vital 2-1 win at Cheltenham Town on Sunday.

Anthony Howell and Matt Rhead were our scorers and as a result, we have moved up to 19th position in the Sky Bet League Two table.

Meanwhile, Billy Kee netted his 50th career goal in the Brewers’ 1-0 win over Newport County in their last match, which extended their unbeaten run to nine matches.

The win also moved Gary Rowett’s team into an automatic promotion spot, level on points with league leaders Chesterfield and second-placed Scunthorpe United.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

In three previous meetings between the two teams, the Brewers have always been victorious.

Earlier this season, Billy Kee netted a 79th minute winner, which consigned us to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium.

In the 2008/09, the Brewers achieved a ‘double over’ us – winning 1-0 on home soil, before earning a 2-0 victory in North Nottinghamshire, courtesy of goals by Greg Pearson and Marc Goodfellow.

OFFICIALS

Mr Trevor Kettle has been appointed by the Football League as the referee for this match. He will be ably assisted by Mr Mark Astley and Mr Simon Mather. Mr Robert Atkin is the Fourth Official.
