Our youth team progressed into the Third Round of the H-K-L North Midlands League Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Handsworth last night.
The Stags were given a tough match by the spirited hosts, but took an early lead courtesy of Ollie Roome’s deflected close-range strike inside the first two minutes.
Trovarn Thompson (pictured) completed the scoring deep into added time at the end of the match, when he latched onto Roome’s flick on and slotted home in a one-on-one.
Stags’ keeper Harry Waldram also produced a string of fine saves to register a clean-sheet, but on the one occasion when he was beaten, team-mate Kyle Hempshall cleared off the line.
Our youngsters will play either Heanor Town or Hallam in the next round.
