Emphatic win takes young Stags top

26 February 2014

Our young guns jumped back to the top of the FCYA (Midland Division) with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Chasetown this afternoon.

Ross Lamb put us on course for maximum points when his wicked cross through the six-yard box was turned into the net by a Chasetown player on 25 minutes.

Chris Spencer doubled our lead on the hour mark as he latched onto a low pull-back by Dan Fletcher and beat the keeper at his right-hand post.

Substitute Trovarn Thompson then completed the scoring with a low finish into the bottom corner on 70 minutes, following some good work by skipper Jack Thomas.

Our team could have enhanced their winning margin even further late on when Conor Green's inviting free-kick was headed over by Charlie Brownlie.

Other than the result, there were many more positives to be had for Academy Director John Ramshaw.

Matt Jones (pictured) produced a commanding display in midfield, whilst shot-stopper Harry Waldram and our defence of Brownlie, Kyle Hempshall and Jack Koczalski kept a clean-sheet for a second time inside a week.

Striker Kevin Hemagou was also a constant nuisance for Chasetown, using his strength and power to great effect.

The comprehensive victory means we now sit level on points with the West Midlands outfit, but top the table due to our much-superior goal difference.

Team: Waldram, Lamb, Koczalski, Hempshall, Brownlie, Green, M.Jones, J.Thomas, Spencer, Fletcher (Thompson), Hemagou.

Our youngsters are next in competitive action when they host Boston United next week.
