Cain delighted with Stags switch

21 February 2014

Versatile youngster Michael Cain has spoken of his delight having put pen-to-paper on a one-month loan with us.

The 19-year-old, who plays in an attacking midfield role, has joined us from Championship leaders Leicester City where he has been a regular in the development squad this term.

Cain admits that he can’t wait to play in Sky Bet League Two.

He said: “I’m very happy to be here. I’ve had a look at the facilities and the stadium and they both seem really good. I’m full of ambition to be here and I’m really happy that the [manager] has brought me in.

“I’ve come here to gain experience with the physicality of League Two and I’m hoping that I can progress well and further my career from [this experience].”

When asked about his playing style, Cain said: “I’m a centre-midfield player and I like to get the ball down on the floor and play it around.

“I’m also adaptable in many positions, like in wide areas or attacking midfield, and I like to break in and around the box and get forward as much as I can.

“My strengths as a player are that I’m very good technically on the ball and I’ve got good set-piece deliveries.

“I’m not the biggest of players, but I’ve come here to adapt the physical side of my game. Hopefully, I can also help the team in scoring goals.”

The teenager also admits to having set targets for himself ahead of this loan move.

He added: “I’ve set myself standards. I want to get a lot of experience and to do that I’ll have to play well to stay in the team, but my goal is to try and win football matches for Mansfield Town.”

The youngster will wear the number 24 shirt during his spell with us. His loan will expire at midnight on Friday 21 March.
