Green wonder goal sinks Hartlepool

6 December 2014

Young Stags make it three in a row as in-form winger scores again.

Conor Green’s late wonder strike gave our youth team their third straight win in the Football League Youth Alliance (North/East Division) as they were 3-2 victors at Hartlepool United this afternoon.

The 17-year-old, who has been in tremendous form over the past month, scored his fourth goal of the campaign with about 10 minutes remaining – beating Hartlepool’s ‘keeper with an exquisite 25-yard effort that would be a contender in any Goal of the Season contest.

Initially, things were going well for our young guns on their longest away assignment of the season, as a first half header by Charlie Brownlie gave them a 1-0 half-time.

The Pools battled back and after equalising courtesy of a spot-kick, they soon went 2-1 up, but the drama and intrigue didn’t end there.

Skipper Chris Spencer made it 2-2 from the penalty mark, before Green’s sublime strike sealed maximum points for John Ramshaw’s team.

Our youngsters’ next match is an FA Youth Cup third round home tie against Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday 10 December (7.00pm).
