Young Stags suffer spot-kick heartache

30 August 2014

Stags are better team, but lose on penalties to Rotherham United.

Our youth team bowed out of the Football League Youth Alliance Cup in cruel fashion as they lost 6-5 on penalties to Rotherham United.

Our young guns dominated territorially and enjoyed superior possession against their South Yorkshire counterparts, but the scoreline was goalless at full-time.

In the subsequent penalty shoot-out, Rory Thomson, Anthony Dwyer, Joe Fitzpatrick, Dan Fletcher and Chris Spencer all converted their respective efforts, before Conor Green saw his sudden-death attempt saved.

The Millers duly took advantage to book their place in the next stage of the competition.

Our youngsters return to league action on Saturday 06 September when they host Scunthorpe United in the Football League Youth Alliance (North-East Division).
