Young guns suffer Semi-Final agony

28 April 2014

Youngsters bow out in Semi-Finals.

Our youth team suffered Semi-Final heartbreak in the H-K-L North Midlands League Cup as they lost 3-2 to Worksop Town at One Call Stadium.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Reece Twell latched onto a low pull-back and scuffed a low shot agonisingly beyond the grasp of Harry Waldram.

Our youngsters looked bright after the re-start and equalised when substitute Ollie Roome threaded a low ball through towards an advancing Dan Fletcher, who made no mistake in a one-on-one.

Worksop regained the lead through Corbin Shires on 67 minutes, who peeled away from his marker to reach a corner into the six-yard box and directed a powerful close-range header into the net.

However, their lead lasted just three minutes, as Roome smashed a low and emphatic 20-yard drive into the net via the right-hand post, following some good play by Kevin Hemagou.

The match then looked destined for extra-time until Jordan Camm latched onto a long ball, tricked his marker, and curled a low drive into the bottom corner to put Worksop ahead once more.

Hemagou had a goal chalked off for offside in the dying minutes as the Stags pressed forward in search of an equaliser, but the visitors held on to record a 3-2 win.

Kevin Staniland’s team will now face Sheffield FC in the Final later this week.

Team: Waldram, Walker, Green (L.Thomas), Brownlie, Koczalski, Hempshall, Fitzpatrick, Hutchinson (Roome), Spencer, Fletcher, Hemagou.
