Joe Flint's winner sealed a 2-1 victory over FootballCV Reds this afternoon.
Our youth team began their Football Conference Youth Alliance (Midland Division) campaign with a superb 2-1 victory at FootballCV Reds this afternoon.
In a match played at Steel Park in Northamptonshire, the hosts went ahead through Ben Kaguamba’s strike on the quarter-hour mark.
Our youngsters drew level before the break as Trovarn Damar Thompson converted a rebound, after Conor Green’s splendid effort had been saved.
Our side dominated after the re-start and Green came close to firing us into a deserved advantage on three separate occasions.
However, with less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, we finally went ahead as Green’s superb set-piece was headed home by Joe Flint.
Danny Fletcher nearly extended our advantage in the closing stages with a powerful header that was superbly palmed away by Josh Carpenter.
But our young guns were ultimately worthy winners, and boss John Ramshaw was pleased with how we responded, having fallen behind.
He said: “We started slowly, but then produced some excellent football at times in a match where a significantly higher score-line wouldn’t have flattered us.”
Team: Fell, Susso, Koczalski, Hempshall (Asare), Coupe, Green (Hutchinson), Spencer, M.Jones (c), Lamb, Flint, Damar Thompson (Fletcher).
