Young guns maintain 100% record

13 September 2013

Our youth team continued their 100% start to the H-K-L North Midlands’ Under 19s League with a 2-1 win over Mickleover Sports last night.

The Stags, who dominated for lengthy periods, suffered an early set-back when Jahquil Kumari-Hill had to be substituted following a collision with a Mickleover player.

After an impressive opening 30 minutes, Danny Fletcher fired us into a lead when he converted a right-sided cross by Joe Harrison.

Fletcher and Liam Carver had chances to double our advantage before the interval, but shortly after the re-start we went 2-0 up thanks to Charlie Brownlie’s powerful header from Harrison’s superb cross into the area.

Mickleover slowly improved as the match grew old and Keiran Coupe was forced to make a last-ditch tackle to deny Luke Gratton, whilst substitute shot-stopper Harry Waldram made a string of saves, which maintained our two-goal cushion.

However, the visitors halved the deficit with less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Jamie Sleigh latched on to Gratton’s through ball and slotted home.

Our youngsters soaked up more pressure in the closing exchanges as Mickleover laid siege on The Stags’ goal, but we held on to record an impressive three points.

Team: Kumari-Hill (Waldram), Coupe (c), Asare, Brownlie, Walker, Carver, Fitzpatrick, Hutchinson (Banton), Harrison, Fletcher, L.Thomas (Darby).
