Our ladies team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Radcliffe Olympic at One Call Stadium tonight, thanks to goals from Becky Braithwaite, Hanna Bodle and Charlotte Montgomery.
The Stagettes dominated from the start and took a deserved lead after just nine minutes, when Braithwaite fired home at the far-post following a corner from the right flank.
Our ladies had ‘keeper Emma Horsnall to thank for preserving their lead as she superbly denied Christine Brewer in a one-on-one midway through the first half.
On the half-hour mark, The Stagettes doubled their advantage as Bodle converted a spot-kick, after Suzy Gelson had been fouled by Amber Gormanly inside the area.
Georgina Williams almost added a third before half-time with an attempted lob, whilst Catherine Davie produced a last-ditch tackle to deny Ella Canoon at the opposite end.
The impressive Williams was again denied after the re-start, as she capitalised on some poor defending and saw a sweetly-struck effort saved by the visiting keeper.
Radcliffe Olympic continued to look second best to our ladies, who came close again when Gelson’s rasping right-foot drive was tipped around the post.
Becky Davis also lashed an effort over from close-range, before Montgomery completed the scoring in the closing stages.
Montgomery, who had only been on the field a matter of minutes, showed superb composure with a well-placed finish, following a through-ball by Jemma Douglas.
