Stags legend to appear at book launch

18 October 2013

Phil Stant to visit One Call Stadium for book launch in November.

Phil Stant, one of the most popular number nine’s ever to pull on a Stags shirt, will be the special guest when Simon Mapletoft officially launches his new book ‘Meat Pies & Microphones’ at One Call Stadium next month.

Stanty, whose 26 goals fired The Stags to promotion in 1992, will join Simon and other special guests for a chat show-style evening, co-hosted by Mansfield 103.2 presenter Tony Delahunty.

‘An Evening With Simon Mapletoft’, which also includes a two-course meal, will take place in the Kevin Bird Suite on Thursday 7th November and tickets, though limited, are on sale now.

Simon says: “I’m looking forward to a night full of fun and nostalgia. I’m delighted that Phil has agreed to join me for the launch. After all, I’ve dedicated an entire chapter to his antics and I can’t wait to share a few of those stories!”

‘Meat Pies & Microphones – The Adventures of a Football Reporter’, offers a revealing and humorous insight into Simon’s life as a reporter and commentator, following The Stags for BBC Radio Nottingham, the Chad, the Nottingham Evening Post and Football Post.

In ‘Meat Pies & Microphones’, Simon recalls the influence of his legendary predecessor Stan Searl and what it was like to work with no fewer than six different managers over two eventful decades.

As well as many hilarious stories from behind the scenes, he also nominates his 10 most memorable matches – and 10 of the most forgettable – and reveals his all-time Stags Dream Team.

Though largely centred around Mansfield Town, the book also re-visits Simon’s own sporting youth and pays tribute to many of the colourful characters from the football grounds and cricket squares of North Nottinghamshire.

Simon, now a presenter on the Sky Sports racing channel At The Races, will also be appearing on the ‘Friday Night Football Forum’ on Mansfield 103.2 from 6pm tonight and on BBC Radio Nottingham’s ‘Pre-Match’ from 6pm on Friday 1st November.

To purchase tickets for ‘An evening with Simon Mapletoft’, contact the ticket office on 01623 482482.

‘Meat Pies & Microphones’ will be available to purchase on the night, and any remaining copies will be available in our club shop.
