Rampant young Stags win again

9 October 2013

Our youth team produced a mature and accomplished performance tonight, as they eased to an 8-2 win over local rivals AFC Mansfield.

Strikers Dan Fletcher and Kevin Hemagou both bagged hat-tricks, whilst Billy Simpson and Wisdom Asare were also on the score-sheet.

The victory, which is our youngsters’ biggest this term, also extends their lead at the top of the H-K-L North Midlands’ League to nine points.

Our side attacked with unadulterated venom from the outset and took firm control within a quarter-of-an-hour, thanks to quick-fire strikes by Fletcher and Hemagou.

Hemagou, who was making his first league appearance, then struck again to make it 3-0, with Chris Spencer claiming the assist, before the hosts reduced arrears on 22 minutes.

However, Asare quickly restored our three-goal cushion, when he headed home from Conor Green’s perfectly floated set-piece delivery into the area.

Fletcher made it 5-1 with a low drive into the bottom-left corner prior to the half-hour mark, but the hosts converted a spot-kick to reduce the deficit again.

The Stags continued to press forward after the re-start and Hemagou completed his hat-trick, when he fired home, following Keiran Coupe’s long ball forwards.

Fletcher then did likewise, to stretch our lead to 7-2, with a brilliant solo run and shot, which gave the AFC Mansfield ‘keeper no chance whatsoever.

Simpson, who until recently hadn’t scored in two years, completed the rout late on, when he slotted home following Spencer’s superb right-wing delivery.

Fletcher enjoyed a number of other chances to enhance the winning margin, whilst Green also struck the woodwork with a speculative left-wing cross.

Team: Fell, Susso, Asare (Walker), Koczalski, Coupe (c), Lamb, Spencer, Simpson, Green (Thompson), Fletcher, Hemagou.
