Duo nominated for monthly awards

1 October 2013

Paul Cox and Alan Marriott have been nominated for the League Two manager & player of the month awards respectively for September.

Football League expert and Daily Mail columnist Ivan Speck shortlisted the duo following a hugely successful month for the Stags which has seen us move into third place.

On Paul Cox, Mr Speck noted: "Has adapted to life as a Football League manager with ease. An unbeaten month with 10 points from 12. The highlight was a hard-fought 1-0 victory at fierce rivals Chesterfield which ended the home side’s unbeaten record."

On Alan Marriott he said: "A stirring display of shot stopping in the 1-0 derby win at Chesterfield was the highlight of a month in which he conceded just two goals. He also performed heroically, flinging himself around, in the 3-0 win over Northampton Town."

Other nominees for the Manager of the Month award Jim Bentley (Morecambe), Paul Cook (Chesterfield) and Keith Hill (Rochdale).

Other nominees for the Player of the Month award:  Etienne Esajas (Scunthorpe United winger), Abu Ogogo (Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder) and Antoni Sarcevic (Fleetwood Town midfielder).

The judging panel comprises former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley; Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins.

The winners will be announced on Friday October 4 2013.
