Our youngsters opened up a three-point lead at the top of the H-K-L North Midlands’ League last night, following a comfortable 4-1 victory over Heanor Town.
Striker Dan Fletcher continued his excellent scoring form by bagging a brace, whilst Joe Harrison and Liam Carver were also on the score-sheet.
On another positive note, full-back Jordan Jones and midfielder Matt Jones, both of whom were returning to the side following injury, completed a full 90 minutes.
The Stags went ahead inside five minutes when Harrison rifled home a powerful 20-yard free-kick, after Fletcher was fouled on the edge of the area.
Substitute Ollie Roome then played a key role as we doubled our lead shortly after the re-start, threading a low ball through to Liam Carver, who slotted beyond an advancing keeper.
With 20 minutes remaining, Fletcher sealed the points with an emphatic first-time finish, following Harrison’s deep left-wing cross to the edge of the six-yard box.
Fletcher made it 4-0 with another predatory close-range strike just a few moments later, with Harrison again providing the assist – this time from the right flank.
Heanor showed plenty of grit and determination throughout the tie, and grabbed a consolation late on, when Ryan Campion’s headed home from a long free-kick into the area.
Team: Waldram (Kumari-Hill), J.Jones, Coupe, Hempshall, Carver, Harrison, M.Jones, Fitzpatrick, Thompson (Hodge), Thomson (Roome), Fletcher.
