Our youngsters’ 11-match unbeaten run in league action came to a surprising end last night, as they succumbed to a 2-1 loss at Mickleover Sports.
Ollie Roome put us ahead on 10 minutes, but Daniel Dolby struck twice after the re-start to earn the hosts an important three points.
Nevertheless, our youngsters remain top of the H-K-L North Midlands League table, though their lead has been cut to six points by second-placed Blidworth Welfare.
The Stags dictated play early on and went ahead after just 10 minutes, when Roome headed into the top-left corner, following Liam Carver’s long set-piece.
Roome almost doubled our lead shortly afterwards when he latched onto Dan Fletcher’s inviting pull-back, but fired over from the edge of the six-yard box.
Fletcher also came close with a lobbed attempt that went narrowly over, before Carver kept us ahead with a fantastic goal-line clearance prior to half-time.
Mickleover levelled shortly after the re-start when Dolby capitalised on a mistake by Jahquil Kumari-Hill and slotted home at close-range.
The pendulum swung either way as both teams searched for a winner, which we almost achieved as Fletcher had a header brilliantly tipped over on 77 minutes.
However, the hosts snatched maximum points in the closing stages when Dolby converted an inviting right-wing cross by Jack Goodband.
