Our youngsters cruised to an impressive 4-0 win over Solihull Moors in the First Round of the FCYA League Cup this afternoon.
Ben Birch and Billy Simpson fired us into a 2-0 lead at half-time, before a Solihull own goal and a stunning solo strike by Joe Flint (pictured) secured victory.
Our young guns will now be aiming to gain revenge on MMU, who eliminated us from the competition last term, at home in the Second Round.
The Stags dictated play for long spells and went ahead when Conor Green’s corner reached Ross Lamb, whose flick across the six-yard box allowed Birch to scramble home.
Simpson doubled our advantage on the half-hour mark, heading home from Green’s superb left-foot in-swinger into the area.
Matters went from bad to worse for the hosts just minutes after the re-start, as Simpson’s long ball forwards was inadvertently diverted into his own net by a Solihull defender.
Flint completed the rout on 65 minutes, when he unleashed a scorching 35-yard thunderbolt into the top corner, giving the Solihull keeper no chance whatsoever.
Team: Fell, Simpson, Marsden, Birch, Coupe (Harrison), Lamb, Spencer, J.Thomas (C), Green, Hemagou (Hodge), Flint.
